200W / Ch Class D vs. 5W / Ch Class A Power Amps

Can you explain why, in laymans terms, please ?

You will need an o’scope to prove that statement.

Quite hard to find 3 nastier amps all in one place at one time - dull / dull and lacking-body / strident and grainy in that order IME.

Nowt to prove, but quite possibly.

Depends what you call do-able money.

Something like this can be had for a few hundred

Just get the ‘suicide diodes’ replaced and I would back it to drive the Celans beautifully

Have you sold the other amps which don’t sound as good, yet?

Just need something from Musical Fidelity to complete the set

Ah ! That must be why the Class D sounds good then.

Sold my Sony V-FET integrated to @Wayward a fair while ago.

Marginally preferred the modified Quad.

Have you heard of gain structure, google is your friend.

No, I haven’t, but I’ll take a look.

Done well, there’s nowt wrong with it. Got a class-D mullet system running at the mo - Puresound L300 pre-amp in control of the Pro-ject Amp box monos - valve-buffered switchmode. Sounds fucking lovely :ok_hand:

No urge to replace my class D.

Nup, don’t think I’ll be replacing mine either.

Could really do with it being put in a better box though :slightly_smiling_face:

Was literally about to ask if it is in a pretty enough box but deleted it before I became too much of a nuisance.

What case is it currently in?

Try an Inca Tech Claymore, not a lot of cash for a nice amp,

have you tied a valve amp with the Hecos?
Would have thought something like the AI 300 may work well with them in a small room.

Owned the Claymore for a couple of years (and the Oberon (far better), Myst TMA3, John Shearne - very nice). Great amp but a little ragged at the extremes. The Oberon was the best of those but, from my memory, this Class D is better than any of those.
