I would leave out Texas and Nevada, unless you absolutely have to go.
Fly into San Diego, rent a Mustang convertible for $54 a day, and drive up the west coast, highway 1. San Francisco, the wine country, Yellowstone, Oregon , Washington, and fly back from Seattle.
Avoid the middle of California, as it is boring!! Irrigation and farming, flat.
