I’ve stumbled across a few archive car production films on youtube recently, the labour intensive manufacturing techniques are quite a sight.
1961 tour of the Jaguar factory - very hand built cars and engines by skilled engineers and technicians. Lathe heaven.
This film about the design and development of the Rover SD1 (early to mid 70’s I guess) shows “computers” involved with the car’s production. The car’s design was stored on punch cards, hard to imagine how they managed to pull it off given how primitive it all looks now.
I’m probably in a minority to find this fascinating but thought I’d share anyway.
