Seems now that the “shithole” meeting was a bit of kabuki theatre orchestrated by senior policy advisor Stephen Miller and White House chief of staff General Kelly. Democrat Dick Durbin and Republican Lindsey Graham were under the impression they were attending a meeting alone with Trump to present a DACA proposal that had bipartisan support and the president (according to Durbin) had been very receptive to in a phone conversation. But when they arrived they were met by Trump and five of the most hard line anti-immigration lawmakers who had put a bug in Trump’s ear and caused him to once again change his position.
Maybe there’s a problem with electing political novices who don’t understand the issues (and display no interest in learning about them) and decide policy by what they saw on Fox news or what their golf buddies have wound them up about.
