Donald Trump finally announced as some massive in-joke (Part 1)

Yes, by normal standards but compared to most of the Bush dynasty…

And yet so much blood on her hands…

How so, in the same vein you could say the same of Churchill, Attlee, Eden and Harold Wilson etc?

She was a nasty vindictive authoritarian leader both home and abroad. Some examples -

Re waging war with Argentina:

With hindsight, the decision to fight might have seemed a foregone conclusion — a cynical distraction from tough political battles on the home front and a chance to reinvigorate Britain’s own sense of what was possible after decades of decline — but at the time many leading voices counselled caution. Papers released last month by the Margaret Thatcher Archive Trust showed just how much uncertainty surrounded the decision to send the Task Force nearly 8,000 miles into the South Atlantic to defeat an entrenched enemy whose own home territory was just 350 miles away.

Several Tory MPs, including Ken Clarke, then a junior minister, warned against fighting. Sir Ian Gilmour, a Tory wet, predicted that “it will make Suez look like common sense” — and a secret memo from defence chiefs spelled out both the expense and “serious risk” of fighting a conflict so far from home.
Overruling those voices of caution, Mrs Thatcher gave the order for the Task Force to sail on April 5 with the aircraft carriers Hermes and Invincible at the centre of a fleet that would ultimately contain 38 warships, 77 auxiliary vessel and 11,000 soldiers and marines.

She authorised British extra judicial killing in Gibraltar.

She waged a dirty clandestine ‘cold’ war on domestic enemies. See here:

Unless I’ve got my history wrong but didn’t Argentina invade the Falklands?

Gibraltar was the shooting of terrorists that were in possession of a bomb and were planning on planting it in the army base.

I’m no fan of Thatcher as she was responsible for the decimation of the Army when I was in with “options for change” and I view the “right to buy” as one of the most naive and damaging political ideas of the last 30 years.

… aaaand mute.

You’re not wrong. I hold the opinion that she was a long way from being ‘a voice of reason’. She was always very quick to use excessive force both home and abroad. Her first instinct was always confrontation; to fight, to punish and to use the power of the state to teach ‘miscreants’ a hard, bloody lesson.

It was Douglas Hurd actually.

“It seemed, especially in contrast with Hillary Clinton, that this was one of the least prepared candidates in my lifetime, but also the most confident candidate. It seemed like the most public example of the Dunning-Kruger effect, or something that looked like the Dunning-Kruger effect, that I’d ever seen.”

Donald Trump, the Dunning-Kruger President (scienceofus, two minutes).

This could get interesting

He’ll deny it all.

Decades of reds-under-the-bed paranoia; then elect a Ruskie stooge for the top job.
Couldn’t make it up.

Yeah…worrying potential to escalate?

Had his first press conference today, that should be great for shits n giggles.

“Bigley”

It is not all bad news. According to this, Trump’s election has caused U2 to delay releasing their new LP. A small crumb of comfort which Coldplay might take note of and suspend all activities for the foreseable future.
