To what extent do people think that the loudness wars are over? I’m finding that most of the recordings I’m listening to are pretty good nowadays, although I don’t know if that’s because I often listen to recommendations from places like this, which are pre-filtered for adequacy.
It’s worse than it ever was. Modern compressors however are much better at squashing the dynamic range without the horrific distortion of clipping. The latest Adele album for instance has all of 6db of dynamic range but doesn’t clip much at all, so sounds ok.

Maybe for quality but definitely not for content 
In all seriousness, the MF + PMC combo was especially brutal! 
Better kit has subsequently made the unlistenable, listenable, but for some stuff - lossy files in the car are still more fun. Sure it says more about the music and production than anything else though.
