eBay stuff (Part 1)

Ha, ha, what a pile of crap that thing is. SMEagol used to have one and it’s was very average. As to being the best ever DAC, er, no way. He replaced it with with a much cheaper DAC that sounds a lot better.

It is literally a board nailed to a piece of wood and a cheap power supply. Isn’t it also one input?

Thanks - I’m a bit concerned how he has come down from £4k to £2k or offers in one fell swoop.
As others have said just the parts must be worth that. Just the GE 2A3’s, if they are a strong matched quad, are worth about £400 from what I can see.
Could be bargain of the year or a potential nightmare (as I have less technical know-how than a Jaffa cake).

From the tone of his email I suspect he is retired and enjoys the build more than the listening.

Saying that I’ll turn up to find some 20 year old chav with a baseball cap on backwards.

For those that like old shite

‘Good working order’. I would want to be stood well back before powering those up :scream:

Good God! How much??? They look like they’ve been under (not in) a shed for at least 30 years.

I do hope Emporium have safety tested those…

Barge pole is something that applies here.

So basically, it is a MM stage with a volume control?

I note no pictures from the top with the top cover removed.

Funnily enough there was a picture of it with the top off from above yesterday with all of the circuitry further concealed under several metal screened compartments but that picture now seems to have gone.

This?

Yes, that’s the one

The later version (M7) of the Fet Pre had a pcb mounted upright and valve rectifiers.

A very nice Pre. Simon Mears just bought one.
