Total scam listing unfortunately.

Are they really worth ÂŁ25,000

No, they’re shit

Proper shite, not worth 300.

I wouldn’t be judging them based on the terrible repro versions that were played at Whittlebury a few years ago. They really were shite.

But certainly I wouldn’t value them at more than perhaps 1/5 of the asking price.

2 issues with this design. First, they weren’t conceived for stereo. Secondly the sources available at the time when they were developed weren’t really of wide bandwidth.

But there’ll likely be a collector in Asia who wants a piece of history. Personally if I had the funds & room I’d spend that money on some WE / GIP drivers & horns.

I heard the originals in somebodies house with a SME 30 and top Shindo valve amps they were proper shit.

Foo - Is this one of you lot?

I’m not sure I understand. Is he trying to turn it into a blind auction via the offers?

Rega man is grueling

Perhaps surprisingly, in the 1930’s and 40’s big corporations like GEC routinely bought in amplifiers from specialiast manufacturers rather than making them in-house. They were used for the large PA systems, telecoms (phone repeaters), cinema installations etc. that GEC supplied. That amp looks similar to ones that Leak were selling to GEC before they (Leak) established themselves as hi-fi suppliers on the high street. Stephen Spicer in his history of Leak, Firsts in High Fidelity, says that the GEC amps went through quite a lot of developments and that GEC didn’t care much about these changes as long as the basic specs continued to be met. That really means that each amp has to be judged on its own merits. Usually what kills demand for them is that it’s essentially impossible to find a matcher to make a stereo pair. The parts certainly have a value though, assuming they’re in good condition.

He was asking £4000 for some 1980’s sony walkman headphones that were the same as the ones in “Guardians of the galaxy” not long ago.

He’s a funny guy.

My offer of ÂŁ1 was dismissed out of hand.

Well you’ve got to beat Mark’s offer first.

I’d go balls out and offer the whole £8.50
