That’s just amazing.

Oh yes.

I’m a member of the Shetland Aurora Hunters group, so you get notice of likely activity. There’s been some amazing pics on there. You just need to have the luck to get the activity/clear night double up.

That’s a gritting truck, lol.

You need to draw an arrow towards the gritter. Most folk will instantly see the Astra, and nothing else in the pic will register…

The Astra must have been photoshopped in. Never seen one skid yet!

It could probably do 150mph on that road in complete safety

The Astra is actually drifting sideways, totally taking the piss.

Walking in the snow and, worse still, the broken/melted then refrozen ice was hard work TBH. The pub lunch was great though (beef sandwich and chips) and the morning views with a bright sun, clear sky and snow-covered fields up to the Ridgeway were a joy.

Today is the year’s earliest sunset (don’t ask, but it is) so the last 5-6 miles of the journey home were in darkness. Except with white snow you can still just about see where you’re going. That was rather lovely too.

EDIT: I was trying to remember this on the way back

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Time to sleep.

E. J. Thribb?

Robert Frost (no pun intended) at his schmaltziest. Still, the last verse isn’t bad - a secular version of John Henry Newman’s “The night is dark and I am far from home …” perhaps.

I do like a bit of poetry. Know fuck all though.

I think my favourite was hearing, many years ago, JCC reciting Charge of the Light Brigade

I’ve learnt, and then forgotten again, a few poems over the years. The only one that stays with me from start to finish is JCC’s ‘Kung Fu International’
