Holidays

Tomorrow we have a long drive back South to drop the car off, refresh with lighter weight luggage as we head south west towards the Isles of Scilly via Cardiff, Penarth, and Exeter…

Might make the drive more interesting tomorrow by heading towards Glossop and then the Snake Pass before hitting the A1 (M)

I used to visit Glossop fairly regularly as my wife’s family lived there. I used enjoy visiting Royston Vasey (Hadfield) but regret that I never took the opportunity to visit this. http://www.jarrelook.co.uk/Urbex/B29%20crash%20site/B29%20site.htm

I’ve been to Glossop a few times as one of my best mates from uni used to live there.

I was reading about those aircraft a few days ago

There are plenty of aircraft wrecks around Kinder and Bleaklow (https://www.peakdistrictaircrashes.co.uk/category/crash_sites/peak-district/)
a number of which still have parts visibly scattered.

Fifteen or so years ago A large chock stone shifted and fell across and is lent up against one side of the rake. One day it will come tumbling down the rake sweeping away all before it. Hence the permanent danger sign at the base of the rake.

Back home for one night to lighten the load for the flight to the Isles of Scilly.

Went from Cartmel to Herts via Snake Pass 257 miles in about 7 hours including breaks

Did 853 miles in that Rav4 Hybrid.

You’ll need a holiday after that.

It was ok, although the seat left me with a sore back after about an hour. It had some nice toys. It had horribly bouncy suspension, which did tighten up in “sport” mode. Apparently the petrol engine bit is a 2.5l 5 cylinder jobby and the drive chain is shared with Lexus. The CVT gearbox is ok, but leaves the engine screaming when you step on the gas.

It was reasonably frugal on petrol since it was a hybrid - our close on 300 mile journey today used almost a full tank of petrol (about £80). It uses the petrol engine above 33 mph and electric below that. The worse thing about electric was the pedestrians can’t hear you.

Ahh the joys of not having to drive when on holiday

Arrived

Hmm no pubs down on the front. Found a local B&B with a “bar” run by somone called Bates who keeps creeping around who sold us some of these

For £4 a bottle

Now I find out they are Lidl’s finest…no NICE Welsh Beer here then…

Hmmm now Louise tells me Mr Bates asked if he could “do the touchy thing” with her card. And we have just witnessed a man in a mobility scooter, jump up, squeeze himself into a wet suit and go swimming in the sea…this place edges into what I would call odd…

In all fairness that could describe at least half of the coastal towns in the UK

Fair play to him, just don’t take his picture and send to the dhss…

You might get ‘clactoned’

Sun is setting

Obvious misappropriation is obvious.

£1.25 in Lidl & a bit weedy compared to the Gecko.

Surprised that you can’t find some Brains (Cardiff) or Felinfoel (Llanelli)

That Gecko we had at the SWW was great.

Please Lidl and Aldi, Lerwick would be a gold mine for you!

Parcel Force would deliver a 20 Kg package from here to Shetland for >£12. That’s quite a good number of bottles. At £1.25 per bottle from Lidl, getting 25 bottles sent there would still only add about 50p per bottle!

Indeed, it sounds like a bargain. However, neither shop will deliver here

I could buy them & send them!
