They sound good!
They are. A good independent effort would beat these probably by having a longer bake, giving a bit more colour and perhaps more flavour, but you’re never going to see that on a mass-produced HCB.

I am not attempting to turn a sweet savory.
Clotted cream / honey / spiced plum jam are all passable and appropriate
1/2 pound of Cathedral not even cheese is not.
I was extremely nervous when offering the cheese topped ones to my mouth but after the first bite I knew this was where the future lay.
They are all liberally spread hot from the toaster so butter (salted) has really oozed.
I urge all to try a slice of good cheddar.
I love fruitcake with cheese, so I can see this working.
