Bloody Hell! What are they?

Think they are those yank speakers I can never pronounce the name of, also makes that posh protractor von fuckknuckle or summit, rare as hens teeth in the uk?

Von Schweikert?

Beat me to it. There is a pair for sale on the Wam currently…

That’s the name, probably not his speakers now though

These must surely be they. Pretty rare beasts over here.

Vin Diesel

Yes, it’s Von Schweikert.
Ashtonishing that the similar speaker (Mk I) is for sale in the same period.
You don’t see them too often.
Mine are VR-4 SR MkII in gloss black.
Still trying to sell the the ones playing tunes before, the original VR-4.
Considered to haul them to Scalford this year, but they hardly fit in an Astra station.
They are even taller (by about 10 cm) than my new ones and look like this:

I have vr-4.5s, imported them.from the US in 1999. Can’t say I have any appetite for change tbh

Is that a Audio Research 5se Preamplifier in your system? How do you find it?

Do you listen with the grill covers on, or are they just for the children?
I read, they are much more open, without them.

It’s the Reference 5, the 5SE is the later version, to be recognised by silver metal buttons instead the plastic black ones on the Ref 5.
There are 2 6N30s per channel and another 6N30 and one 6550 for power.
These 6 tubes generate more heat than my power amp that stays lukewarm.
That’s the only downside, heat and tube wear.
I think it’s a luvvely pre amp. Could easily be the last one you’ll ever need.
Has all the ‘audiophile’ attributes, without being clinical.
It makes my natural sounding DAC even more analogue like natural, without adding a tubey romanticized effect.
The system evolved over the years with DAC changes as well, so never had a head to head with the previous LS-25 MkII or Pathos InControl to make a fair comparison.
But what I gained over the years was more definition, a wider stage, a deeper stage, air around and between instruments and vocals. Also more controlled bass that goes deep, so you hear both the bass drum and bass guitar apart from each other instead of a rumbling resonation. More speed, a fast attack and a natural long decay as the sizzling of the high hats fade away. The successors 5SE or 6 might be better, but the way the system sounds, I frankly don’t care that much.
Very, very happy now. Hope this helps.
