The question in the top picture is a perfectly reasonable one. 50 years ago the insides of aircraft really could look like that (OK, if you were in First Class they could) - check out the launch pictures of the 747.

50 years earlier still crossing the Atlantic looked like this

The flight took nearly 16 hours and at one point Brown is said to have had to climb out onto the wings to chip ice off the plane’s engines.

Talk about progress happening and then stalling …
