What albums have you bought lately?

I have a possible unknown incoming.

^^^This is wot I intended to buy.

However all the Amazon links took me to this cover.

Which is a Braty Bluzu album. The tracklistings on Amacuntz are as for the Haslam album tho & Slam Productions as the Record Label, which the Braty Bluzu deffo isn’t.

Here’s some reviews for the Haslam album I’m hoping to get here.

BILLY LIAR, AUTUMN 1999
Pure and beautiful improvised music recorded by the three-quarter Ukranian quartet. UK’s George Haslam plays a phat baritone alongside piano, drums and subtle midi-guitar. Space, frenzy and texture become more than the sum of their parts in expert hands.

HI-FI NEWS & RECORD REVIEW, JUNE 1999
Many on the British music scene claim immunity from fashion, but certain styles remain taboo. Travelling to Ukraine, baritone saxophonist George Haslam found musicians with different priorities. Here, improvisation does not mean denying jazz; rock sonorities do not entail four-square beats or play-pen harmonies. What results would never be allowed here: Hawkwind meets Cecil Taylor! The atonalism is sardonic and lush, Haslam’s big baritone revelling in the careering potential of twistingly unfamiliar grooves. ‘Quartet’ has some deliciously wacky percussion interplay, while Volodymyr Solianick’s electro-piano delivers surprise after surprise; wispy, emotive effects British musicians would reject as kitsch here come across with fetching directness. Oleksandr Nesterov’s midi-guitar swirls and scurries; Sergey Khmeliov’s percussion delivers east-of-the-Urals metres. World-traveller Haslam unpacks exotica undreamt by virtual nomads.

The BB album is Ukrainian Proggy Fusion Jazz, so perhaps there is some cross pollination of personnel here & hence the confusion/mislabelling. Either way I should be getting an interesting album.

Also I have bought these, all on vinyl from the Italian Black Saint Avant-garde Jazz label.

Already being a Cecil Taylor fan, gave me some context as to the reviewer making some sense. Kinda sounded ooop me alley at any road.

Listening to this would give you a better context as what sorta influences the album embodies.

The latter album is a a two part Sax/Piano Duos album with first partnership featuring Ukrainian pianist Vladimir Solyanik & the latter featuring Argentinian pianist Ruben Ferrero & George Haslam doing the honours on Baritone Sax & Tarogato.

Cecil Taylor’s “Jazz Advance” is a real classic & quite groundbreaking in its day.

Started to pick a few up for a couple of quid each on amazon used. Then saw this at 24 quid and decided it was so mucho easier!

Just arrived, second hand from Amazon.

I was recently very surprised to discover that I didn’t own this. I swear I’ve bought it several times over the years.

Still, the situation is rectified now.
