I’ve no idea why but I’ve never heard Salisbury. Demons and Wizards was the first of theirs I heard way back in '73 or so.
Mine too. But due to my addictive personality, I had to get the rest. Salisbury is an acquired taste. They still hadn’t established a solid line up (it was still fluid until Demons). But it was ambitious. 24 piece orchestra and additional brass. It’s a lot more self indulgent than you expect from a 2nd album. It’s better if you think of it as a different band (Hensley & Co) and not as Uriah Heep.
I lost some interest once Gary Thain died (after Sweet Freedom, although he was replaced by John Wetton) I didn’t bother with them at all after David Byron’s alcoholism got too bad (post Return to Fantasy). High & Mighty was shit.
Just playing it now via Spotify. As a registered awkward bastard I quite like it so far. But, you’re right, it’s not really a Heep album.
I have been meaning to check out more of the Cosmic Dead. Their last one didn’t really float my boat though.
Nah, last Album was crap.
IMO, this is their best.
