Giant Sand are/is Howe Gelb,
Many musicians have been through his band and gone on to other things, he is a sort of John Mayall of the American alt world and has hugely influenced a vast collective of musicians and he has a prodigious output. He also has connections in the UK and has performed with the Imagined Village and produced a KT Tunstall album.
Giant Sand and solo projects account for over 40 albums.
Guest performers include Neko Case, PJ Harvey, Isobel Campbell and the late Vic Chesnutt.
Long term members of Giant Sand, Joey Burns and John Convertino went on to form Calexico.
Yes, did some reading about him. Seems well respected, and very influential.
I do like a lot of things he has done. I just really struggled with his voice, on that album.
Quite a few in that category Gregg, I have mates who love the songs of Bob Dylan and Neil Young as long as someone else is singing them!
