The Last Shadow Puppets - Everything You’ve Come To Expect

The Underground Youth - Mademoiselle

Really enjoying this. Slow, stripped back Sonic Boom / Spacemen 3’ish guitary Psych.

White Vinyl

Have been listening to a few of their albums after seeing you post this before, tis very good.

(even though the album cover does look like a photo of someone doing a bird from behind)

Their quite new to me too.

All of their stuff, that I’ve heard anyway, is pretty good.

Excellent

Green’ish Vinyl

First play of this box set, that is rather epic. Three CDs, 65 tracks & a runtime of three & a half hours.

Quite enjoying this, seems a really well judged effort from Strut. Rather makes up for the stillborn compilation box-set, they cancelled the release date for & that I had on pre order sometime around the turn of this/last year IIRC.

Excellent job.

A few years ago I bought four classic albums plus bonus singles which had only 18 of the single tracks on this new release.
Good news this release is available on spotify

The four classic album set you mention is also very good. It was one of two Sun Ra box-sets that I started out with. The singles selection album from that set, was actually most of one CD from this set>>

I kinda saw this as bonus material, really as the full original albums; Jazz By Sun Ra; Jazz In Silhouette, Supersonic Jazz; The Futuristic Sound of Sun Ra. Are all pretty much excellent.

This would still get a really strong recommendation from me, as a good starting point for early Sun Ra albums.

I think for anyone wanting to buy Sun Ra compilation albums, these days, would be much better served by this new set from Strut & also the recent Marshall Allen & Gilles Peterson curated efforts. Rather than buying the earlier 2cd set.

I read a review of that somewhere (no idea - Pitchfork? the FT?) and added it my saved “stuff” on Spotify but haven’t got around to it yet. Again, thanks for the nudge.

I don’t think you will be disappointed, Guy.

It is a good set from a chronological point of view too. The earlier 2 disc set, just mentioned, doesn’t actually take you very far really. With such a huge recording period 3 CDs, crammed chocka full makes a much better fist of it. The last disc usefully adds some really well judged tunes from his latter period of recordinng from such classics as Mayan Temples, Disco 3000 & Nuclear War.
