Though I’m sad to see Eddie Howe leave, no doubt the amount of player sales contributed to that decision, I’m actually quite excited by the huge changes and the unknown for next season.
Matthias Jaissle looks like he could be a good fit for the squad. His first pre-season game is later today in Valencia and the start of the season is feeling really close.
Was a bit strange that the opening game of the Efl season was the league cup game , but as opening games go , at home against one of our closest ( geographically) rivals I’ll take it.
Glorious evening and an injury time winner.

Villa playing PSG tonight in the Supercup. Brings back fond memories of Villa’s last outing in 83 against Barcelona and the dirtiest game I’d ever seen at that point.

Scummy American owners are all the rage these days. Not content with re modelling the world cup for increased ad revenue their influence will spread across the EPL and will likely cause changes here. Is it half of the clubs already under American ownership? Pity we couldn’t have followed the Bundesliga model re fan ownership.

So… West Ham’s season kicks off tomorrow. In true East End fashion, the close season and transfer window have been an utter clusterfuck. We are hopelessly under staffed squad wise, imv. The bookies have us as favourites! 
Reasons…
As Sullivan resigned just prior to the Panorama expose, Daniel Kretinsky then stepped in to buy the Gold Family’s shareholding (25%). He did enough to make sure that Jarrod Bowen would stay, and the purchase would have made him majority shareholder. I think Sullivan has about 38%. He said that none of the players had to be sold and the fanbase took a collective sigh of relief. Over the next few weeks, the club sold 55,000 season tickets.
Unbeknownst to us, Amanda Staveley had stepped in and offered more for the Gold stake and I think, Kretinsky then had a massive problem blocking her. Because he already had 27%, buying the 25 the Gold family own, would mean he would then trigger a complete buy-out at a pre- arranged (top heavy) rate. He has since sold 2% to a new investor so he can now buy the Gold 25 and remain below 51%.
The upshot is that the club didn’t get the £90mill cash injection we were expecting and haven’t been able to invest in the squad. The £150 mill in outgoing players mostly went on debt.
So, preemption rights mean that this situation will take 2 months to sort out and in the meantime, we are starting to get the vultures circling over the choicer parts of the squad.
Time to buckle up, coz the squad will likely look quite different to how it does now in a couple of weeks. It’s full of holes now, and we are away at Turf Moor tomorrow, on paper, one of the toughest games of the season.
Probably most footy fans say this about their club, but being a fan of WHU, there is never a dull moment!

Might watch the chazzer shield tomorrow to see what Maresca does with City. I have them slight favourites for the title this year as I think he’s a decent manager and their squad will have more than enough Guardiola muscle memory to be very good again. A bit like when Arne arrived, tweaked one or two things and bagged the title.
Arsenal got a couple of big time injuries but still a monster squad so they’ll be close again although I reckon when push comes to shove Arteta will be prioritising the European Cup with them never having won it.
Places 3-6 will be tramps fighting over a bag of chips.

Yup. Unless there is serious action, that squad is not good enough. 2 points dropped, and we just look like we have the last couple of seasons. Excruciating.
They’ll have to do a lot better than that!
Unai Emery has gone full Football Manager potato and decided with less than a week till the start of the season to flog pretty much the core of the first team and replace them with his own picks.
Looks like they’ll introduce themselves to each other during the warm up at BHA
