Great album

Yeah, just realised this is a solid expanding catalogue, could be expensive.

Says the man who listens to Sons of Kemet

Not trad Jazz though, is it Kev ?

Neither is Attica blues.

For the record you seem to have little notion of what ‘Trad Jazz’ is. You seem to lump in all jazz you don’t like as trad jazz, even a lot of the ‘hard bop’ era stuff, which is poles apart from trad jazz, which I’m often not keen on.

Just ordered that on a whim, based on the album cover.

Does not compute.

This is probably entirely true Chris. I have no notion of hard or soft or any bop but I do know the artists I like and people like Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter don’t feature.

I do like Don Cherry, for instance, however. What genre does he fall into ?

Avante Garde probably, certainly a little ‘out there’ one of the founding fathers of what would come to be known as World fusion music along with the likes of Yusef Lateef

I lean quite heavily into this kinda stuff & suspect you would find a fair amount quite engaging!

Ah, I see. So, probably outside of Jazz then ? I also like Yusef Lateef, who I also lumped under experimental Jazz.

I also like Sons of Kemet and some The Comet is Coming, which I also understood to be experimental Jazz.

Edit: maybe I simply don’t get Jazz, at all, then.

A fair amount of Yusef Lateefs output as both leader & sideman would fit in the hard bop genre. So I wouldn’t be surprised at some hard bop floating yer boat.
