Another...What are you listening to, right now? (Part 4)

A brilliant leftfield blues artist to check out is Professor Longhair. Highly influential to the likes of Dr John & more recently Hugh Laurie who’s blues albums are pretty decent.

Quite a mashup of musical styles influences & generally rollicking good fun.

I’ll be playing this a little later today myself & it features several of his better known tracks.

Its New Orleans style blues at heart & as Al intimated in his earlier post deffo also fits within the umbrella of jazz.

…bit of a catch-up session.

Absolutely. None cooler or funkier than Fess. Let me recommend a film tht must lurk somewhere on the web. “Piano players Rarely Ever Play Together”, featuring Fess, Allen Toussaint and Tuts Washington, the latter an old fashioned sporting house piano player. Sadly, Fess dies during filming.

If you’re partial to a bit of Stereolab then this is worth seeking out - one of Laetitia Sadier’s side projects from around 2005.

Cheers Steve. I did akshurley see a reference to that film, when I had a quick squiz at his bio on Wikipedia earlier today. So will check that out.

Cheers.

Chris.

I need to give that another go Matt as it didn’t grab me the last time I listened to it (although I do love the cover).

You might want to check out that Dust Devil album by Naemi - very very good on first listen tonight. Laid back ambient vibes with hints of Grouper, October Language - Belong & Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.

Yer welcome.

One of my favorites that Lawalree LP. Try it after a pint of red wine.

Not an album I used to play that often but since getting this mono box set from Mike @MJ2 it’s been a bit of a revelation.

I wish I could afford to replace all the stuff in my collection that was originally released in mono and get a good mono set up on the tt :sob:
