A brilliant leftfield blues artist to check out is Professor Longhair. Highly influential to the likes of Dr John & more recently Hugh Laurie who’s blues albums are pretty decent.
Quite a mashup of musical styles influences & generally rollicking good fun.
I’ll be playing this a little later today myself & it features several of his better known tracks.
Its New Orleans style blues at heart & as Al intimated in his earlier post deffo also fits within the umbrella of jazz.
Absolutely. None cooler or funkier than Fess. Let me recommend a film tht must lurk somewhere on the web. “Piano players Rarely Ever Play Together”, featuring Fess, Allen Toussaint and Tuts Washington, the latter an old fashioned sporting house piano player. Sadly, Fess dies during filming.
I need to give that another go Matt as it didn’t grab me the last time I listened to it (although I do love the cover).
You might want to check out that Dust Devil album by Naemi - very very good on first listen tonight. Laid back ambient vibes with hints of Grouper, October Language - Belong & Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.
