That album gets better the more I listen to it.

I’ve just had it on again. It really is a magnificent achievement. It leaves a vacuum behind it once it’s finished.

What other big act has come up with something this good nearly 50 years into their career? They are pretty much the best, most compelling live band out there too. No big productions, they just get up and play, with this extraordinary presence. I can’t get enough of them at the moment.

Was thinking about this earlier and could only come up with Bowie. Everyone else is just coming up with filler or their umpteenth remastered box set.

Dylan, though live leaves a bit to be desired, I should be going to the Nottingham gig next week but decided I had to let a friend down gently, the clockworks instead

Possibly but I struggle with all his output. Peerless songwriter but a performer for the faithful.

My conclusion too.

I really hope I can get tickets to see them. On the evidence of the Troxy live stream the other night, they’re actually getting better!

I’m not much of a cure fan bar the early stuff , but I’m going to give this a listen after the gushing it’s getting. My wife is a fan so will probably end up in the collection

Nah… live he fucks around with his material too much, and his albums are patchy. The Cure, on the other hand play their songs as they should be and are right inside them as they’re doing it. They’re pretty amazing.

I’d agree with live I’ve seen him a good few times and once was superlative but output wise I disagree

So the question is: given that I only have one Cure song in my entire music collection do I need to get it?

Reference point: I also only have one Bowie album which is Blackstar.

Stream it and see.

Well obviously no. I don’t think anyone’s claiming it’s the greatest thing they’ve ever done. Because the greatest thing they’ve ever done is as good as any British band output ever. It’s just a very high quality effort that’s up with their better material - unusual for a band going since the mid/late 70s. Would be extremely surprised if there’s any Cure fans who aren’t happy with it.

Yep I was thinking the same and particularly of Bowie’s Blackstar where an artist very deep into their career can produce something of this quality.

Is not on Naxos Media Library and given 80% of my listening I haven’t ever needed to subscribe to anything else.
