Ooo I do believe this is the first time I’ve played this through the Direkts - very nice ineed.
I love her - she is just phenomenal.
God yes, what a voice, what an instrument! Lovely hit of nostalgia, too, from my parents’ radiogram and their record collection when I was a small boy - all sadly lost to time…
Instrument is the right word.
This sums her up perfectly for me - Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman & Richard Rogers enjoying her sing in NYC 1949
What a fabulous picture!
I have just learned a great bit of trivia about this album tonight.
On the track Strength Of Strings a certain Les McKeown of the Bay City Rollers is one of the backing singers but is listed as Les McKuen on the sleeve
That’s “our” album.
In a separate conversation last night it came up that I saw Roy Harper in 1985. He played Another Day and seemed quite bemused that it had been covered by some people called This Mortal Coil.
I went to a lot of Roy harper gigs in the 80’s
Always an experience, he loved Liverpool scallies
Only two for me. That one and Edinburgh maybe 88.
Have either of you ever been to see his son Nick Harper playing? Phenomenal musician and very funny.
I’m afraid not. He’s one of the ones that got away.
He still tours - definitely got London dates coming up.
Went to a few where they played together, really good vibe and yes funny
