now this again - Renbourn’s final album, showing all his musical influences. Excellent.

The Roots - Deeper Roots.

Not to be confused with the Questlove The Roots this is a very good soulful jazz funk album from 1975 South Africa.

Matt @Ruprecht have you ever heard this ?

I found it by accident on Qobuz while looking for a track by the hip hop version of The Roots and it’s tagged as hip hop on there so grouped in with their stuff.

I was intrigued as it didn’t look a familiar album by The Roots so a bit more digging revealed it’s a South African album from 1975 and currently goes for a princely sum on Discogs.

It’s really quite good.

Quite well trodden as a band name.

I have this

(From an American hip hop collective formed in 1987)

The Roots - “Phrenology”

& also these two from this underappreciated jazz supergroup.

It’s mid 70’s Capejazz with a soulful edge from what I remember - Song for my baby used to get played out from time to time but to be honest I’ve not seen a copy for a good while. I also never found a copy in Cape Town (it was one of a few dozen I always hoped to turn up over there - Gahhh)

What a band.

I was listening to The Return To Innocence Lost with Ursula Rucker from Things Fall Apart today and it still remains one of the most powerful songs I’ve ever heard.

I’ve just finished listening to it and really enjoyed it - thankfully it’s on Qobuz as I don’t fancy coughing up £400 for it !

Amplifier - Gargantuan

I am double-gigging again next Friday. Amplifier at The Louisiana and Pigsx7 at SWX.
