Think this wuz prolly t’ first album I ever bought featuring Billy Childish in the line-up. Also has Bruce Brand on drums, who plays on a lot of Billy Childish albums & AFAIK all of Thee Headcoats albums (14 altogether I think) + a fair few Holly Golightly albums. Also appears on quite a number of other line-ups.
Bought at least 30yrs back.
Since reissued on the Damaged Goods label who’s output I’m a big fan of!
Really love that 'un Al !! One of me fave M. Garrick albums, some loverly vocals from Norma Winstone ace piano & a reet tight band!
Indeed worra great line-up!
As Michael Garrick Band with Henry Lowther (trumpet, flugelhorn), Art Themen (soprano sax, tenor sax), Don Rendell (tenor sax, flute), Dave Green (bass), Trevor Tomkins (drums), Norma Winstone (vocals)
I took you’re advice to get it - it is indeed a belter.
The more Brit Jazz albums with Norma Winstone on them the more I love her - although I’ve yet to hear anything that matches Neil Ardley’s A Symphony Of Amaranths.
These two featuring Norma Winstone are very good.
Also all the Azimuth albums are pretty decent Brit Jazz, featuring John Taylor Norma Winstone & Kenny Wheeler.
Totally agree on Symphony for Amaranths, pretty much essential Brit Jazz, a real fave 'ere!
