I really like Elton’s ‘early period’, and know I’ll be called a heathen, but I find GYBR very hit and miss.
At the time it was considered his Magnum Opus (certainly his US breakthrough) but, for me, it was just too disjointed.
Nevertheless, I bought it and still have it, but find myself unable to play it from start to finish (unlike EVERYTHING that came before it).
I wouldn’t disagree with you too much there. I do like the Album, but not as much as other early stuff. It mostly starts and ends strong but sort of loses it’s identity in the middle. The rocky and ballad type tracks work well but the more Country / Americana ones don’t.

I reckon it would make a decent single album rather than double.
