Back when they sold hi-fi down there, I suppose

I’m sure our Londonistas can enlighten us - I’m from the wrong end of the country I’m afraid and I was only nipper :grinning:

There was a bloke window shopping at one of the Edgware Road shops looking at some Walkmans. I was trying to sell a new boxed one so approached him to see if he fancied buying it half price

Was the bloke from depeche mode who gave me a distant look and moved off sharpish, which was nice

Four rare photographs from the time of the great London smog of December 1952 - staggering now to think an estimated 10,000 Londoners died during it

Wow, great (and disturbing) images.

They are amazing but just glad they were put into context by the guy posting them up originally.

I recall my mother telling me about those. You really couldn’t see your hand in front of your face at the time. I think she’d have been about 19 & commuting in to work at the LSE.

This picture is a closer illustration but still no where near as bad it really was.

“The smog was so dense that it even seeped indoors, resulting in cancellation or abandonment of concerts and film screenings as visibility decreased in large enclosed spaces, and stages and screens became harder to see from the seats”… On behalf of 1952. Fuck you Smog.
