It varies quite a bit from year to year, but roughly 20,000 people are killed each year on Indian railways. Scaling for population that would correspond to about a thousand deaths a year in the UK. If we exclude suicides the UK figure is actually about 40.
Of the countries I’ve visited, those that believe in reincarnation seem to place little stock in health & safety. Certainly these countries were also more economically challenged than their western counterparts.
I was in Thailand when the tsunami hit. Without exception the Thai response was alarmingly (to my mind) accepting. Through their lens “I’ve drowned before and I’ll drown again”. Indoctrination is a powerful thing.

Yeah there’s reincarnation and there’s fate: if it’s your time to die then it doesn’t matter what you do, it’ll happen anyway. Hence overtaking on blind corners.
Strikes me as a good way of having your population accept a poor state of affairs.

…and low instances of anxiety and stress related illness in these countries. A strange juxtaposition. Safe and shitting yourself or under threat and not caring. Either way life ends.
