1953 apparently, so he’d be 15 or 16 and she’d be 40 or 41.
She had four brothers, all of whom played for football league clubs. Her cousin was Newcastle United’s legendary Jackie Milburn. Claire’s mum was from Ashington. I seem to remember one of Claire’s uncles telling me that Cissie Charlton used to scout for Newcastle United. She’d have given Bobby no quarter.

She sounds as if she was a real character - a proper working class Ma.
I mean, he looked about 60 most of the way through his playing career, his age only seemed to catch up with his looks when he was actually in his 60’s.
