The rug tho’ …
Well spotted, many AA elements here. The ‘space’ seems almost ‘dressed’ by the more design led AAman. I like the cistern damping - it’s nicely done.
I wondered if it was another rug. It’ll also stop the cistern freezing in the winter. Sadly the pan will freeze so if you’re unlucky when you pull the chain the water and and the pan’s contents will overflow onto your shoes.
Maybe the rug is there to mop that up ?
While not outside, my last house had the downstairs khazi off what was effectively the porch such that the air temperature was generally half way between the outside and the rest of the house. One’s morning ablutions could, in winter, still leave you like this.

The summer Khazi vibe is strong here with the nonchalantly placed deck chair - perfect for those summer days when you want to just chill by the shitter.
