The Tollbooth, Glasgow 1947 by L. S. Lowry

Didn’t realise he’d done any paintings of Glasgow.

I love Lowry, he seems to capture the moment in his paintings, but how did he get such movement in the people, not one is rooted to the spot , all ’ moving '.

Agree - it’s a very clever technique.

I like his later work as well

I was having a closer look at a signed print my parents bought about 45 years ago. My sister has it now. Peel Park in Salford.

I don’t know the area & am trying to work out exactly where the view is. Some likely & similar red brick buildings remain but not sure whether the arch is still there or indeed whether he took some liberties with the detail/geography!

Peel Park was in the middle of the Uni campass when i was at Salford, walked across it almost daily for 3 years. The site on the East side of the Irwell closed a few years ago so the Uni is now all to the West side of the Park.
The red brick building may be the Peel Building, with the smaller ones being on the far sidw of the Cresent. All the other Uni buildings will be after the date of the painting.
