Audio Note M7 humming/noisy

Until it inevitably goes noisy and the hunt begins again.

Audio Note Conquests, have got the same issue as the M3 where just 2 clicks on the volume is loud.

Audio Note preamps tend to have way too much gain.

Pah, not even 104dB sensitivity speakers.

Let us know how much noise there is with the volume control at minimum & what type those tall valves are. The first step is to get the line stage as quiet as it can be.

Ok so valves are:

2x at the very back are RCA 6072 with orange writing
1x on it’s own is an Amperex 6211 with orange writing
2x tall ones either side of selector rod are Telefunken E80CC
1x rectifier just says RCA CY and nothing else

Some good info on M7s here https://cheaptubeaudio.blogspot.com/2012/02/review-my-kondo-system-part-ii-kondo.html

See mate, this is true power of alcohol. Look at what you could o’ won.

E80CC is quite high gain & pin compatible with 12BH7 (lower gain) Would need to see the circuit but I suspect 12BH7 might work there. I wonder if it was originally sold with E80CC fitted. (The wire clips suggest it was but it’s an odd choice)

Found that the other day but couldn’t find anything that matched mine :frowning:

And 6211 is equivalent to 12AT7.

Rectifier could be a 6X5?

Never seen this configuration.

Does look like the 6x5 out of my old M3

It’s most likely. 6X5 is just a 6X4 on an octal base.

Me neither

There’s a LM317KC regulator in the corner as well but can’t find any ref to the M7 using one

It’s for the heaters…

What’s the purpose of the wire clips? My 6X4 and 5687 both have them.

stops the valves coming out of the socket

This one sold on Wigwam in 2016 looks a similar configuration
image although the power supply is re-jigged a bit

I’ve seen photos of some like that with what look like ceramic batteries next to the regulator, what are they?
