Beautiful Things

Very true. But then very true of a lot of things (fossil fuels perhaps most notably). Another detail is that many of those things are cheap because of economies of scale in production. If we cut the usage down a great deal then the price may go up and things which have brought us significant benefits (single-use syringes, nylon mosquito nets, flexible piping for clean water) will become more expensive. The auto industry is supposed to be getting to grips with recycling its plastics. I don’t know how that’s going, but it does appear that it’s at least plausible. If they can do it then so can others. And they should.
