Not convinced that my SME 20/2A is much better that that to be honest. At least it went to a good home. @Bolts has it now.

Thanks for the replies. The faff free first upgrade path rules out anything too esoteric.
A great used technics is probably ideal, but a new AT might be easier.

A 1200 or 1210 is possible for £500 or less.
Ideally a bedroom dj’d one and not one that has remnants of ecstasy in the slider controls from a field in 89.

Beauty of the technics is that parts are everywhere.

except its already over budget and isn’t BIN, thats just a starting bid price, I’d expect it to go for a bit more.

But the 1500C is a nice thing. For most people, more than enough turntable

It’s overkill but what I’d suggest if a bargain one popped up. Deffo outside budget.

It’s always easy to spend other people’s money.

I bought an AT-LP5 for my dad and it’s been great. Has a built in phono but if your friend wants to up the budget toward the full £500 I would probably find an external phono stage to partner it.
