Clocks on cocks (Part 1)

I think I’m somewhere between 10 and 11. I still own a few watches, but I don’t actually wear a watch any more

yes me as well

Tag Heuer are one of those brands that I really want to like, some of their styling is very nice, The carerra twin time is just lovely. The Monaco is an icon. They also have a very strong technical history, with mechanical movements that can measure to 1/2000 (mikrogirder) and the most affordable swiss tourbillon. I have a weird like for their grand carrera and caliper models but for some reason they feel like ‘my first proper watch’ and I have difficulty getting past that. I did very nearly buy a Monaco a while back but once on my wrist it just didn’t feel like 5k of watch (not that i’d pay that much) so they’ve slunk back down behind the sofa of my interest again.

I had a mortgage in the 1980’s that had one of those.

This for 2020, they still make gorgeous looking watches

and this from 2018

I like that Dave. Was it on a crowd funding page?

I’ve had two Tags, the first, a 2000, ~38mm quartz diver, perfectly good but just did not do anything for me. Was cheap, and would recommend anyone for a compact, affordable diver thats pretty bullet proof!
Really horrible metal bracelet though, soon replaced with couple of different straps, including this Nato:

The second ‘Heuer’ I’ve owned was this re-edition, a little 35mm GMT model Carrera. Lovely little thing but did not use the GMT function at all and it felt a little lightweight. Nice detail on the dial though.

They were Ratners-fodder in the latter half of the quartz crisis, and that dragged-down their snob-appeal. They do a lot of great stuff - top of my list would be Heuer-era Autavia (or good reissue):

Some aquarcer models are pretty horny, and the Monaco needs no justification…

Ah, ok. Thought I recognised it from a crowd funding appeal. Nice watch.

I love the look and history of the Monaco, it even has a birth year connection and I was all gung ho to buy one but on my wrist it just didn’t feel 5k WOW for the blue or gulf dials I was looking at. I’ve since been looking at the black dials on c24 for a much more reasonable sub 2k and although my recent splarging on watches has reduced my current funds to far less than that it feels a far more comfortable price for that watch. The problem is that there are some seriously tasty chronographs in that price range (yes 2nd hand) from Breitling, Vulcain, Zenith, and many more which appeal far more to my contrary nature - also i don;t want a black Monaco I want a blue or Gulf Monaco, and round we go again.

:+1: Read you loud and clear, I like it, I want it, and I could have had my pick for what I’m spunking on the Damasko, but the price is overinflated at present for what you are getting, and it feels like the “celebrity”-watch market bubble is overdue to deflate if not actually burst…

We’ll see, it’s just Stuff.

I feel your pain. When I looked I worked out down to the limited edition Gulf with the correct shade of blue and the correct Cal11 push button layout. At nine grand used because of collector reasons I ruled it out. The other two Gulf editions either have the wrong shade blue and right pushers or vice versa.

Also square pushers, everyone is screaming at then to go back to round pushers but the fucks are deaf.

Really like that, so I assume it’s somewhere north of £10k.
