Having just polished this, I want it even less now. The original case design made sense internally, this is so bloody stupid, twelve million screws, stupid shaped seals. Stupid. Hate it.
Needs a nato
Looks more like a helicopter landing zone than a watch.
That size and shape is not for you.
This had been on the long-list, but have to say real-world pics are not encouraging, never mind the fact it’s not too brilliantly designed. Plenty more fish…
@Dom - I have a modest bonus to spend. Breguet Type XX or Blancpain Bathyscaphe? What do you reckon?
Not that you have asked for, or want my opinion but Blancpain for shallow looks reasons, I have no idea which is the better watch.
This.
Both great watches, but both need to go back to maker to be serviced as unobtainium parts/seals.
Breguet because nicer made and finished movement, but prefer the looks of the blancpain.
So both?
My Breguet Marine was serviced (at Watchfinders expense LOL) because it was way out of spec for time keeping. It came back with a receipt for £850. Are Blancpain going to be similar?
One of the watches nicked in the burglary back in Feb 18 was a Breguet type XX. I loved that watch
Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that Rolex are historic. But they’re just whippersnappers compared to Breguet. Apparently, both Wellington and Napoleon had Breguet (pocket) watches at the Battle of Waterloo.
You made me go and look at the Zenith web site and find this
So yeah, thanks for that
Must admit I could really fancy a XX or XXI.
Very much similar pricing
Yes and no. The name has the history, but when A L Breguet died it was the end. The family kept it going for some time, but it really died and then sold the name to the swatch group.
This doesn’t take away from how good the movements are. Swatch group took Lemania an amazing movement maker and made them breguet. They stepped up to the game and have done some beautiful designs. I love the movements that copy the bridge designs of the A L Breguet era pocket watches.
It’s down to Nicolas Hayek (Mr swatch) obsession with the Marie Antoinette watch, possibly the most complicated watch ever made in its era.
Been lucky enough to service a few pocket watches from the era. The quality and level of finish is out of this world, plus watch technology really hasn’t improved since his designs. That’s if you exclude materials, oil and tolerance improvements.
You need more watches.
^ He’s right you know. ^
re: the Patek, I’m (literally) still on the seller’s Christmas card list, so the 80% discount is in the bag
It’s 35mm, so potentially not suitable for some of the bigger bois on here.
