They’re everywhere!

Enjoy!

Don’t get your hopes up too much - 40mm…

Puts me in mind of something else from the Unslakeable Lust List:

Vacheron Constantin 222

Biggest they made was 37mm “Jumbo” - and you might still find a nasty, unserviced, B&P-less bicolour one for £25,000, but expect to pay 3X that for an actually good steel one with grey or silver dial…

Car boot fodder 25 years ago…

Yeah that and them crappy Pateks. No one wanted this stuff in the 80s and 90s.

Just finished this for a customer, love the lugs and the sound of these early bumper autos

Lovely job on that JLC!

I shudder to contemplate how many gold-cased wrist and pocket watches alone went for scrap during those decades… :scream:

I have a hankering for a ‘Marine’ style watch. White dial, roman numeral, small seconds as must haves, date at 6 and a power reserve meter at 12 on the nice to have list. Being the UN whore that I am the Marine Torpilleur would be ideal, however I’m broke at present so am in need of suggestions for less than some arbitrary amount - say £1000
I’ve seen some nice things from steinhart, stowa, Sewills (timefactors) but was wondering if there were any other out there worth a look.

Naturally I’ll probably never buy one as a new obsession will no doubt come along in a day or two - 3 days ago I was dribbling of fleigers but anyway be nice to see what’s out there…

Beat me to it. Quality is exemplary, options many, price a bargain, and they’ll even make it with a scratch-resistant hardened steel case if you ask nicely.

Yeah, I have their webpage open! Only looked at them because of you. Still really like their Turbulenz, if only they did a hardened bracelet!

Archimede do a 20mm hardened bracelet for their “Outdoor” watches, but chances are they wouldn’t fit as those have an unusual case shape.

I’ll check them out anyway.

Sinn and Damasko do as well, but they’re both a lot pricier and entirely the wrong styles…

Damasko DK30 is top of my list and likely a slightly better shape for me but there is something about that Turbulenz that I just like. If only I can stop spending my money on other things.

That Dekla is rather nice. Love the red 12 option.

One of the best of the current Rolex range. Nice and understated, classy.

I agree. Fortunately for my wallet Rolex do nothing for me in general and I am happy to keep it that way but that is really nice.

Seiko almost-universally leaves me stone cold, especially since they started pushing prices uphill on the coat-tails of Swiss inflation, but hidden amongst the endless, dreary salaryman fodder and ugly misaligned-bezel dross on Seiko’s dreadful website there are some gems.

This SPB093J1 from the Presage range - which is backfilling what used to be Grand Seiko’s territory of fine build + sane price - is a bit of a gem: elegant 40mm diameter proportions, lovely detailing with (for once) a well-realised power reserve indicator plus an interesting date subdial, an adequate high-beat 6R27 midfield movement, sapphire crystals front-and-back, and perhaps its best feature - a beautifully realised Arita porcelain dial (porcelain dials being more usually the remit of vastly pricier timepieces):

List is a not-mad £1,750, but if you import from the far-east one can be had for £1,300 landed. I’m not a dress-watch person - no opportunity to wear them - but if I was, this would be hugely tempting.

I’m sure @TheMooN was looking at these before ultimately buying a you know what.

I do like those dials.
