Clocks on cocks (Part 1)

The top one is less boring.

Have that exact watch, on a black-and-orange rally strap. Have a soft spot for solar watches.

Liked for the GlashĂźtte :+1:

Have whittled the divers watch choice down to two, happy with that.

GMT watch to sort now. Rolex is the obvious key age answer to a couple of time zones. Omega seamster, although neither a pure GMT nor Diver, it is achingly beautiful, well the good planet one at least.

What else is there?

Am of spoon whittling for the day, catch up when I return, spoon in hand.

True GMT’s are rare Generally Rolex, Tudor, Seiko and Omega (coaxial) are true travellers.
Also:
Ulysee Nardin Dual time - challenging looks.
Bvlgari Diagono GMT - some reviews say the buttons move the hour hand, some the GMT - would need to see in person.
Hamilton Broadway GMT - true gmt, very large iirc.
Breitling ‘04’ / ‘035’ movements (navitimer, chronomat, unitime) - 'spensive or go for a quartz B50 or Aero evo.
Alpina Startimer GMT - true gmt but whack looks.

That’s about all I’ve found that I can verify as true travellers gmt - i.e. hour hand can be adjusted in 1 hour jumps independently without hacking the movement.

I’ve got a Heuer reissue that can independently move the GMT hand.

What do you mean by “hack the movement”?

Pulling out the crown and stopping the watch to adjust the hand, which means that you have to reset the time.

Door handle 1.
Tag Heuer 0.

Fucking gutted.

However, am considering an orange strap for it. But they’re £100.00. Hmmm.

FWVLIW, I’ve got a £50 Parnis auto that both hacks and has true GMT set. I don’t think real GMTs are all that rare.

Oris should be on the list (cos I have a bonor for 'em), they’re one of few credible independents, who even make some of their own movements. Tick many of my own must-haves (sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, not too massive 43.5mm) Also, purty. Downside, limited strap choices.

Those are nice - typ 21 or 23 black bezel pls!

@chelseadave - liked for the Laco, they just don’t make a bad watch, tho’ you did your best…

Not the first time iirc? Don’t orange strap it. I like orange, but it would be Rong. Red at a push.

Massdrop has had many bargains.

…or if you want to get spendier (and deeper, and titaniumier), there’s always the Prodiver GMT:

I have one of those on an aged thick brown leather strap. They look much better in the flesh.

The scenario for a ‘travellers gmt’ is thus…

You set off from home with the ‘gmt / 24 hour’ hand showing the same time as the traditional hour and minute hands (local time). you board your plane, watch mind numbing crap or try to sleep for a few hours and land at your destination which is 4 hours ahead of your home time.

With a travellers GMT the movement will allow your to adjust the ‘local’ time hour hand forward 4 hours to match your actual local time in such a way that the watch isn’t stopped ‘hacked’ so it is easier to do alter the time in this situation.

For a ‘desk or office’ GMT you are sitting at your desk and are tracking the time in a foreign office, say 4 hours ahead.
In this configuration the GMT hand can be moved in hour jumps without hacking the watch so you can easily see what time it is in the foreign office.

A world timer has a ring that rotates once every 24 hours and city codes that stay still (or vice versa), some cheap world timers don;t have the 24 hour ring connected to the movement but to a second crown so you have to move things manually. Others mix traveller and world time complicatioons (Breitling unitime B35 for example) where the 24 hour ring rotates but you can also jump the hour hand , 24 hour ring and city ring in 1 hour steps so for example if you are in new york, this city code is displayed at the 12 / or 6 o clock position, the hour hand shows local time in new york and the 24 hour ring shows time for the rest of the world.

I love a good GMT / world time complication and the Unitime or something that functions in a similar way is something I covet, a lot.

Most of the eta movements are desk, there is i believe a selita module that will function as travelers, but i can never quite pin down exact functionality.

I had the choice between a GMT and a sub two years ago. Same price. Went for the sub as I didn’t like the polished centre links on the gmt bracelet and the date window. Sub has gone up £500. GMT £5k

Bleh

Unworn! :joy:
