Cocks on clocks (Part the Second)

My own personal bug bear is the god awful trend of heavy handed outlines around the markers and the hands on a lot of modern watches.

It just looks clumsy and lacks subtlety/ elegance to me but then I’ve always liked the blob painting of lume of 60s dive watches.

On the BB ceramic it’s less of a poke in the eye than other designs (yes you Rolex) but I still think its goes against the stealthy aesthetic that the rest of the design pulls off very well.

As a blind old cunt I like the thing you don’t - depends on the watch mind: high-legibility belongs on a tool watch, but not a dress watch, obvs. Some makers do mix and match these things rather badly…

Nice.

Lotta watch and features for the money as usual with CW.

That luminous strap is not for me tho’ :grimacing:

£100 extra for the SS bracelet

Plenty of other straps available @ 241.

Just the smallest bit of milling to provide a nice pattern on that visible bridge would have lifted it massively.

If you are going to display the movement it had better be pretty.

Otherwise, that’s probably the nicest CW I’ve ever seen. I love blue glass like that too.

If there is one thing I hate doing it’s switching bracelets in and out but this looks to have a nice quick release system. That would certainly make me consider the bracelet but I would still buy the rubber strap as well. It’s got all the right dimensions for me which is huge plus. Not too big for a diver at 42mm and not too thick at just under 11mm. I haven’t kept any previous CW watches that I have bought before but this looks like it won’t disappoint. Will probably get one.

Good to see the ‘trickle down’ of technology
Vacheron Constantin followed by AP have had a quick change system for a few years now.
Makes life easy for the wearer but not so much for after market strap suppliers.
Nor for people who have a drawer full of straps they like to use,

They just keep upping their game - 10mm thick for a 300m dive watch is up there with the best, and delivering all these features for under £1K is frankly remarkable. Nice.

Dammit, succumbed

Is that the silver one?

Sorry its a terrible pic - its the ceramic BB.

Another terrible pic, but more indicative of the blacked out effect.

Who was Wilsdorf, who was Davis, who was Eglar?
Why were tariffs so important in Rolex history?

This very detailed and excellent (although very long) podcast is worth a listen
