If I look at a watch and admire the casework, the ingenuity of the design, the ergonomics of the strap or bracelet but I’m left asking myself… What Fucking Time Is It Tho?.. I’ll move on.
Not for me. I’ll slake that particular loin by buying a novelty tie.

I’d still like to look at at it in an admiring fashion , casework and finish and all, but still come away knowing it was half past one.

I’ll plough my own field when it comes to what I like. The new enamel Freak S, in red naturally, is high on the lotto win list but in reality I’ll never own one.
I’ll stick to the more mundane UN pieces for now. In fact I think I’ll stick this on my wrist today.

UN really do make some absolutely offensively gopping watches (which a quick look at C24 suggests have rallied greatly in asking price in the last few years…), and the blue abomination a few posts up is unquestionably one, but in characteristically schizoid manner they also make the rather pleasing ‘Marine’ and ‘Torpilleur’ ranges, which I would cheerfully own were prices back where they were six years ago!
Still hardly an everyman watch (what is?), but I like most members of those ranges rather a lot.

Their speciality is supposed to be the marine chronometer style, but just about everyone else does it better 
I can find 20 others in that style that I prefer.

I love the bloody things.
The centuries of nautical history, the hugely innovative use of materials (they were the pioneer of mems and silicon use in movements) and the sheer brilliance of their sometime chief designer Oeschlin (sp?) a fully reversible perpetual calendar using only 10 or so extra parts to name but one. And I can buy one for a quarter of the cost of a dreary, everyone has one, over marketed lump.
The looks? Yeah. Unconventional but when every other watch out there looks very similar to the next I want my spend to stand out and make me smile.

Yes, that’s kind of what I mean when I say I want to like them.
The Freak is unconventional and I love it, the other 98% are pretty conventional, just somewhere between fugly and meh.
