Cricket, lovely cricket (Part 2)

I once played, in a solicitor’s firm vs barristers chambers game, against a county fast bowler, he was a bit of ringer who was notionally a barrister but really just played cricket, I think for Kent.

I could barely see the ball coming at me and was terrified of every delivery. I ended up scoring 50 just by sticking my bat in the way.

Shockingly fast deliveries.

I watched Michael Holding bowl from the cheap seats - square with the wicket.

I could see his run up/delivery and I could see the batsmen trying to hit it. Absolutely NOTHING in between :grimacing:

I can’t help but smile when I hear/read the name Holding or Willey, reminds me of Brian Johnsons colemanballs commentary, I think the cricketing nation was in heaps laughing and probably still is.

Not to mention the Big Bird’s 9,10,Jack. The ball plummeting from high in the sky.

That’s what it’s like here, the only balls I’ve actually seen go down the wicket were Washington’s. Bumrah may as well have been launching air at them for what I can see. Ditto Archer.

Congrats to India.
It would have been very easy to see a collapse after 0-2,
Turning that into >400-4 is quite commendable

India 115-4 and I don’t think we’ve bowled very well :eyes:

It only takes the occasional unplayable ball, as Jadeja just found out!

Might be an idea for Tongue to pitch a couple an over in line, he might be on for a 5fer

Bumrah would be on 6-14 here

Standard village tactic of the surprise straight one.

Is this standard fayre at the Oval now? Don’t ever remember it as green as this.

Woaksy out?

Seems like it. I thought it was always known for pace and bounce but not the green tinge. It seems that it’s pretty standard to bowl first these days.

I’m only listening on the radio, so didnt get to see any of it but it sounds like England were pants yesterday, and lucky. Woakes’ Injury is a bother.

The Oval was always the best place to see the Windies Booming System pace bowling quartet.

Big ask for England bowling unit, No Stokes, no Woakes

Pretty even contest, unfortunately those dropped chances could have tilted it towards England and may prove very expensive.
