Digging around for a fountain pen (it’s Christmas card season ) I came across my old Featherstone & Durber pocket knife.

A quick Google suggests that the partnership didn’t last long and folded a long time ago. It sounds like they’re quite well-regarded in the modern knife-collecting world.

IIRC the wife said that she at least paid for it at a pre-Christmas craft fair in Edinburgh, but so many women had taken one look at the stall and seen an obvious gift for partner that they were reduced to selling pieces of paper that said “we promise to send you a nice knife in the new year when we’ve made some more”.

I like how the brass fittings have picked up a nice patina in the ensuing ~25 years. Although after looking at close-up photos I’ve rubbed that one bigger bit of grot off

Yes, I spotted that after sharing it here; wonder if the tiger is the same as yours! :joy:

No it’s smaller, half the size and a different maker. Also I’ve seen that particular one for sale and iirc they are ceramic where mine is cast metal.

Loving the way it was apparently manufactured 9 years before the start of its period…
