Dicking about with crap old cars

Alfa failed mot on emissions. Just haven’t used it much since last year. Will get through tomorrow and some fuel treatment and a run about a bit.

Maybe new brakes next.

I have an old car which doesn’t get used much. Shortly before the MOT I bung a tank or 2 of superunleaded in and give it an Italian tune-up. So far, that seems to work.

If I am teaching you to suck eggs, forgive me.

I did a bit of that. Obviously not enough this time. Normally works.

Prepping up for some soggy arse surgery on the Landy. mainly clearing off and painting the landing pads for an anti-roll bar (previous owner removed the original!), new standard height springs, replacenemt shocks, A Frame bushes and ball joint, various OEM rubber bushes and Polly Yellow and Orange bushes plus new stainless fittings all round. Next Tuesday wil be some 10 hours under the Landy removing the old shite and fitting the new. That’s the bit I will enjoy, the prep is dirty, horrid but necessary. Not expensive as it turns out, less than £400 all in.

ARB fitted, just the A Frame to go and that needs a car lift.

Seeing your Landie has made me think I could do with antiroll bars on my Rangie. I have a plan🙂

It would appear mine have not all run out :grinning:

Not long after I bought my GTM I replaced the hydragas units with coil overs.

A couple of days ago I thought I’d tackle the simple job of relocating the battery isolator from under the bonnet to under the dashboard. It wasn’t as straightforward as I thought and I ended up having to remove the coil over mounting plate to reroute the wiring and that’s when I found that the mounting plate was bent.

All four are like this but the fronts are worse even though the front springs are 100 lbs lighter. I decided I’d have to make four more out of heavier gauge steel and here’s the result

The rears aren’t so bad so I’ll tackle them in a couple of weeks.

Bought an MG TF front subframe for the GTM yesterday. Came complete with nearly new vented discs, callipers and pads which is a nice upgrade. I’ve already removed the brakes and the callipers will go for blasting tomorrow ready for paint. Plan is to get the subframe blasted and galvanised. It will need some slight modification to fit but this subframe is manufactured with towers and top arms specifically to take coilovers so will be an improvement over what I have now. My phone died so pics later.

Callipers look nice in satin black. I fucking hate seeing suspension and engine parts in bright lurid colours :rage:

The only difference between these and the original brakes is these are vented so I’m hoping they don’t fade under heavy braking. These are only a temporary fix until I get the fifteens fitted but that needs the arches extending.

Busy day on the motor. Removed the old alarm that had gone all HAL on me, just hardwired evrything back, new GPS tracker and imobiliser next month.

Started the framework for the seat/bed, all in Ash.
