A few printing issues along the way, all a part of the learning - But I now have a complete pair of 1.4" horns. The registration is good final finish to be decided later.
Impressive work Andy ![]()
Stunning!

Final finish? Given your history of producing some of the most astonishingly unattractive speakers known to humankind, I think we all know they’ll be staying exactly as they are ![]()

Harsh but fair
how did you get hold of my family portraits?
So looking for drivers for above a7 cabinets. Anybody happen to have anything lying dormant on a shelf somewhere?
how bad or big of an issue would dealing with the stuff the surrounds are treated with that some vintage altec drivers seem to suffer with?

Wembly speakers are your friend
I’ll keep them in mind. From a quick look online it seems you can heat it up and try and remove it or move it around and re spread it.
Bit of progress, of sorts. Late last year I had a small win on the Premium Bonds (and had already sold off a few spare DIY bits) so went ahead with my original plan of ordering the Supravox 285GMF 12" Mid-Bass drivers and another 165GMF to make up the pair, should be here, customs willing, in February. Basically a similar lineup to the Supravox drivers I had back in 2019/2020 but sold to fund a previous house move.
I’m going to give it a go with a standard sealed cabinet for now and playing with VituxCAD, I think I will have a good stab at a simple 2-way with the 285GMF and 4524/Seos12 combo in a large ~115Litre enclosure. The 4524 models really well with a simple 2nd Order BW at 3kHz being nice and flat with just two components. The 285GMF is pretty linear up to 7kHz so might well work.
I do have another 1" CD tweeter coming to try for a lower crossover point (Radian 475PB).
I do like the idea of a simple, efficient, large 2-way I can eventually run off my little Decware Zen.
SPL level is low as the initial measurement was not at 1w/1m.
I’m planning on the 165GMF enclosure to sit on the top so I can be flexible in trying a 3-way in a semi-active version using passive between the mid & tweeter, then the 2x4HD between that and the bass driver.
Build wise, I have the 18mm Plywood already but liking the idea of some Green Valchromat for the front baffles (30mm in this case). The 165GMF enclosure can be as small as 2-3 Litres as I’d be planing on a crossover between 300-700Hz, and maybe try an offset position to help with diffraction, as well as a chamfer/radius too.
I do love the idea of going down the OB route again but I like the idea of having something I can position right up against the rear walls for domestic/toddler harmony!
