Donald Trump finally announced as some massive in-joke (Part 2)

Apparently a couple of dozen people disagree with something.

Kent State 2.0 in view :slightly_frowning_face:

If you’re a reporter in the United States, this gets you suspended (and probably fired) from your job . . .

The military is being mobilized to turn loose on the citizenry.

This is a fascist regime my friends

This Presidency isn’t going to end well.

This Presidency isn’t going to end until the cunt is dead.

Every corporation - of every kind - in the US is shitting itself for fear of raising its head and upsetting the orange manbaby. Just a ~r~i~p~p~l~e~ from one of his temper tantrums can finish a business already badly hurt by the tariff slappy-fights…

It’s bad enough that Sam - who’s not worked there for nearly a decade - is discussing it with business contacts in mid-tier food production, plenty of whom are ‘examining their options’ with respect to having to potentially move overseas - and I don’t mean Limey expats - I mean people born there who are smart-enough to see how this might all play out and want to have exit strategies if it gets bad-enough.

I agree; thing is Vance would be next…

Terrifying.

I cannot tell how that one would pan out. He’s far smarter, and far more coherent than Trump, but he doesn’t have that weird cult of personality that Trump’s been able to generate.

I think he’s also far, far more ideologically driven on non-finance matters than Trump. I genuinely don’t think Trump gives a rats arse either way about things like abortion, women’s rights, LGBTW rights or potentially even immigration, he just knows they are perfect subjects to whip up his base whilst he raids the public purse for his own gain. Vance on the other hand is clearly far more invested in those issues for their own sakes.

One of the best put-downs I ever heard was on Radio 4 decades ago. Stop The Week was a live panel discussion show. It was hosted by Robert Robinson who also fronted the TV quiz Call My Bluff. He was casually rude on STW about some tabloid journalist and quick as a flash Ann Leslie (also a tabloid journalist) came straight back with “Well Robert, we can’t all be quiz show hosts”.

I’m guessing Trump’s hosting of The Apprentice accounts for at least some of his cult following. Highbrow it may not be, but being on the telly gets you noticed in a way that writing a book (Vance) never quite manages.

They’ve started shooting at reporters now.

This is a staggeringly good piece, trenchant and well written, from an unexpected source - Fleet Street Fox in the Daily Mirror.

I’m confused by the end-game here - deportations-wise: we did something similalrly self-harming (if arguably slightly-less viciously) with Brexit, and it has harmed our national economy to the tune of billions, left us short of every kind of skilled and unskilled labour, bankrupted businesses, alienated our natural allies, and helped reinforce the increasing influence of tyrannical regimes in the near and far east…

It’s not just a nation shooting itself in the foot - this is the full chain-gun style pedal-obliteration underway. No matter what the end game, there are hugely less suicidal ways to get there!

Keeping the MAGAs happy. I think that’s it. To be fair, he did say he would do it.

Strictly speaking the MAGAs won’t be happy and for the same reasons that the Brexiteers aren’t happy here - shortages of labour, reduced co-operation from the neighbours, worsened economy etc etc - but they’re dumb enough that they’ll believe him when he says all that isn’t caused by the deportations but by a malicious liberal conspiracy plus some bad luck. And the universities.

One thing lovely Christian ‘can’t stop loving your neighbor racists’ don’t like the sound of is:
America being set to have a Non-white majority by 2045.

Maybe there is something to this Second Amendment stuff about needing your guns to protect yourself against corrupt Government.

Not sure that applies to Latinos though

Actually doesn’t mention anything about protection from the government, it’s about the maintenance of a “well regulated militia”

They’ve seen how well it’s worked for the IDF.
