An utterly incorrect (as seems to often the case) spiel of nonsense. The Act has been used by 15 Presidents, and Bush used it twice.
What seems to be overlooked throughout the news networks is that there was a nuclear accord with Iran, signed in 2015, and that Iran appeared to be keeping to it. Trump tanked it in his first term, essentially because the US had negotiated and signed it during Obama’s presidency.
Iran lost the incentive of sanctions relief and stopped constraining enrichment, and thus again set itself on the path to being able to create weapons-grade uranium and plutonium. So - where did this issue originate? 
Throw in the US influential activity in the region, providing weapons and acquiring support from Saudi, Iraq, Kuwait, UAE, Oman and others, and it seems Iran has been the holdout. The US has bases everywhere… Except in Iran.
It seems unlikely that anyone other than another hardliner will accede to power in Iran. Unless this truly has been much longer in planning and a puppet is already lined up.
Meanwhile, there are reports of celebrations for the death of Khamenei in the streets in Iran!
