they’re weird, people are polite and help each other
That sounds v odd
Oooh get 20% off Hive with the bluelightcard card so 3x ordered at £46 each
As Graham said your boiler should be able to modulate internally as long it’s relatively modern. How well and with how much granularity it does it will depend on the make and also its size relative to the volume of the system. A boiler overspecced in size will not be able to modulate down enough.
The basis of modulation is turning the boiler internal temp down. It’s more efficient running for longer below 60C than having it set at 70/80C that a lot of them are set at. You probably already knew that but the link to lower flow temps is the boiler modulating its burner down.
Yeah it was finding the info that was difficult. I’ve got a Worcester Bosch and it seems to imply that it modulates (as it has the EMS bus connections) but the ‘eco’ mode is only related to the HW preheat and I can live with the water taking a minute to start running hot.
I’ve fucked off the idea of trying to fine tune the modulation with a smart thermostat and will just go with TRVs and keep the Hive.
Next challenge is to see if I can get IFTTT to integrate with the Hive API
Nope stupid cunts dropped IFTTT integration and geolocation doesn’t actually do anything.
Cunts
Mission accomplished.
@sjs don’t know if it’s of any use (or interest) but the geofencing can be done with Home Assistant.
Have now got it set so when I leave the house (or the last person leaves) it switches off the heating and when I leave the office it switches it back on.
Thx but not something we really need, i work from home and there is almost always somebody here, so switching the whole house off is rarely of use to us
We use the timers per TRV to manage rooms being warm/cold per use during the day
First of its kind, apart from being fairly similar to Ripple at first glance?
Just switched from Octopus flex to loyal before the next fucking price increase
So if you opt for the Loyal tariff and prices increase you win. In the unlikely event that prices fall you can just switch back to the Flexible tariff with no exit fee.
Is that right, or am I missing something?
Sound a bit too good to be true as I can’t see how Octopus gain any benefit from that situation.
That’s the way I read it.
With no exit fees, if energy prices do unexpectedly drop in the future, you’re always in control.
Is it just that existing customers are dissuaded (a bit) from jumping ship for a cheaper fix with someone else ?
Yep, exactly that.
Only had a quick look around but others are already more expensive for fixed tarrifs.
I logged out of octopus and did a quote for new customers and that is more than the flex pricing.
Me too.
Thanks for the replies
I have switched as well.
Hmm
looks like I am on an Octopus fixed tariff until October
Out of interest, why the sudden drop in consumption around 1pm?
Is it e.g. charging batteries and then they’re charged?
House battery full, hot water “tank” fully up to temperature and then no car on the drive today to soak up the rest.
