Apparently I ‘wasted’ two semesters at Uni working with fractals, developing compression algorithms.
Hah! They’re now used globally - JPEG achieves up to 50:1 compression, but with fractals (and satellite imagery especially) 170:1 has been used.
Imagine how much fun I was at a GIS meeting…
