General election 8th June

The BBC certainly seems to have abandoned any pretence of impartiality.

I caught some of Today this morning with John Humphries ā€˜harrumphing’ his disapproval of some aspect of the Labour manifesto & Nick (former Young Conservatives Chairman) Robinson eventually getting turned over by Barry Gardiner.

Better off sticking to C4 or ITV for more balanced coverage.

That is something I never expected to see in my lifetime. Sad, but true.

I’m not sure Nick Robinson got turned over did he (starts at 1hr 43mins 30secs here BBC Radio 4 - Today, 12/05/2017) ? He didn’t ask the questions that Barry Gardiner thought he should have asked, but he did point out that the Labour party had sent its shadow international trade secretary rather than its leader or its shadow defence secretary to talk about the leader’s position on defence. He also failed to press Gardiner hard on ā€˜the real issues’ when there was clear weakness there (so I suppose in that sense Robinson did fail to shoot the fish in the barrel).

having watched QT last night, it didn’t look biased to me…

So there’s a left-wing blog which is convinced the BBC is right-wing biased and there’s a right-wing blog which is convinced the BBC is left-wing biased.

Could it be people see bias to suit their needs? Surely not.

Tories got 58% of the vote in my ward in 2015 with UKIP picking up 16%, on a 72% turn out.

Not sure who I will vote for yet but unlikely to make any difference TBH.

It’s unhealthy for one party to get too big a majority although it can kick the opposition in to action. If Labour don’t wake up soon I can see the centre left breaking away.

Gang of Four Mk2.

That may be all that’s left

Only two of them were mp’s at the time.

Andrea Leadsom is my local mp. 26k majority last time. Might end up picking one of the others at random.

In my parents constituency of Bury North the libdem candidate is advising voters to vote for labour, as there was only a 500 majority for the Tories last time. Most other parties are not fielding candidates.Whilst I don’t want the Tories to end up with a massive Parliamentary majority I don’t really like that sort of thing.
But my opinion counts for fuck all in almost everything.

It’s coming to something when the opposition is so shite they resort to advocating a vote for A. N. Other.

Tactical voting isn’t exactly new. It might however play a bigger part in this election given as Mark says, the opposition isn’t as coherent as it needs to be to put the incumbent government on the rack.

I know it’s not new, but it is sad.

It’s an internet thing which most of the electorate won’t know about or give a flying fig about.

Looking forward to the rub-a-rabbit-foot day to stop the Tories getting in.

This whole election is shite.

I so want to vote for Labour (and probably will do, just as I always have) as I like Corbyn’s policies, but not him. Darth May is just so fucking smarmy that I can’t help wondering who or what she really is (neither fish nor fowl). Lib Dems have some nice ideas (as always) but the cunt who’s running the show for them is deplorable. The Greens are just green; again, I like some of their policies but unless I live in Brighton then it’s another vote down the toilet. I’d quite happily vote for an independent if it would make any difference where I live, but as a pig with a blue rosette would win anyway, what’s the point.

I used to be interested in politics but the last twenty years have just ruined that for me, and probably most of the populace. Never more so than now is the saying ā€œIt doesn’t matter who you vote for, the bastards will always get inā€ so true.

My despair is deep today.

I think the best everybody is hoping for is that May has a small majority, and will be prevented from doing anythiong crazy by some pro-eu Tories.

If that happens then we get 5 more years of Corbyn. But I think we probably will get that anyway. As it will be somebody else’s fault if he loses, and it will not be fair etc etc.

Ideally Corbyn and Farron will fuck the fuck off and we get a decent opposition. But we will probably end up with hard Brexit and super low corporation tax, and fucked up services. And they will all blame it on Johnny Foreigner.

I’m not feeling particularly ā€˜cup half full’ about the next few years. Tis all bollocks.

You surely have to ask yourself why, as opposition in the current situation, you can’t make gains. Opposition always makes gains as a term progresses, even without government fuck-ups. But this opposition is rocketing backwards against a dead easy target of Tories lurching to the right, and Lib Dems a bit of a shower.

All they need to do is gently move towards the middle ground, and have a slightly bland pragmatist leader. But no. Honestly, fuck Labour as hard as the Tories.

My guess is that Brexit has made a massive difference in this election.
God knows how many Labour supporters will be voting tory because of it.

While the Tories will no doubt gain out of Brexit for the next 5 to 10 years with the British public, they may find themselves out of government for a generation after that if the UK is not loads better than what it is now.
