Gigs I'm going to. The Gyroscope diaries

I’ve seen three gigs at the RAH from memory. The Cure (1986) sound was pristine, encored with Faith and Pornography, I went home happy. New Order (1986) sound was duff, gig was dull. House of Love (1988) 2/3 full, took loads of copies of the free 10" singl, sound was duff but gig was excellent. Have managed to avoid it since.

I remember Zappa scrambling up over the seats to get to the organ at a Mothers gig in the late 60s. That was a good one.
Think i also saw Cream there.
Even got to a few Proms.

I saw Esther Rantzen compere there for my firms Christmas Charity concert for Children in Need back in 2001. Not much of a claim to fame but beautiful venue.

Saw Crosby Stills and Nash there on a day with great acoustics, I was a bit past CSN but a mate persuaded me to go and I am glad that I saw them live, it made me appreciate just how good those singing harmonies were, and what a great guitarist Stephen Stills was.
I remember my mate asking “Do you think they will do the one about the whale?”
Of course they did the one about the whale, I am surprised they didn’t borrow the one from the the NHM for the fourth harmony part.

So jealous of seeing Zappa. I probably only like about half of the albums he’s released, but the live stuff is just so bonkers, and to my knowledge no one else in drilled his band so hard in readiness for live gigs. The musicianship on display is just fantastic.

I’m going with a friend to see Bonnie Rait next year - he’s blind and so I get to go free as his carer / chauffeur. Again, I’m so-so on Bonnie Rait per se, but I know the band will be absolutely top notch and tight as a gnat’s chuff.

I met the Mrs when the firm I was working for refurbished her company’s offices in Vauxhall Bridge Rd in 1985.

Her company had 4 seats in the stalls block-booked at The Royal Albert Hall. The senior folk always had the seats for the proms but the tickets for most other performances were just handed out around her office. We went countless times between 1986 and 1992, when she left after fol1 was born. Saw all sorts of stuff, boxing, choral, military bands and of course, rock bands. Saw Eric Clapton & Friends about six years on the trot, Genesis, George Harrison, The Cure, Supertramp, The The and many others.

I am in Camden a couple of days this month, but not that one :grinning:

The wife is at this

She texted from the interval to say that it is “fantastic”. I feel like a philistine but a really quite spendy ticket would have been wasted on me.

Got myself a decent seat to see Opeth in Feb.

Worked with a woman who was always off to the ballet.
From her comments I have a feeling she was more of a Carlos Acosta fan than just a ballet fan.

I used to work with a guy who I suspect felt the same way about Sylvie Guillem, who can smile at the same time as doing this

That’s not particularly clever, I also can smile while she’s doing that and, in fact, would.
