Gmail newbie question - of folders and labels

Does anyone know how I can mass move emails into a label category and have them removed from my inbox - instead of appearing under both the label and inbox? Do I need to assign them to a label and then archive to do that?

It’s a bit strange that it’ll give me the option to move one email at a time into a label but when I search for all emails with a given name, I can’t ‘select all’ and move them en masse.

Are you using the web interface or a client as Outlook has an easy to use rule wizard for this type of stuff.

Web interface. I have an Outlook account too but I have a lot of stuff in my Gmail account I want to keep using.

Create filter, click apply to everything in inbox.

Once labelled, archive them. They will still be visible under the label filter.
